Our Story

Our story began in Alijó, Portugal, in a small town in the mountains of Northern Portugal, where Rui began baking with his father in the bake shop located in the downstairs of their home. Rui spent years learning from his father, but wanted more. In 1989, Rui came to the USA in pursuit of the "American Dream", where he began working at Delite Bake Shop in Yonkers, NY where he also met Carmen and Manuel Rodrigues. Rui started from the bottom and worked his way up learning all aspects of baking, including: cakes, cookies, pastry, danish, bread and so much more. In 2006, when Carmen and Manuel sold Delite, they asked Rui to join them in Somers and be their head baker, where they all met Jill at "Sweet Delite's". 

Jill started as one of the "front girls", and then went on to be the head cookie decorator and manager. Jill fell in love with the business as well as the customers. Carmen and Manuel were ready to retire, and with Rui having 30 years of baking experience and Jill having 15 years experience with the business and the customers, they decided to take a chance and take over Sweet Delites Pastry Shop, where they have been making Somers a sweeter place to live!
